The Tenth Anniversary of the Américo Paredes Book Award Center for Mexican American Studies at South Texas College
The Center for Mexican American Studies at South Texas College is accepting nominations for its 2021 Américo Paredes Book Award. Scholarly books published in 2020 must address a subject or topic within Chicanx and Latinx Studies. The committee will consider monographs, edited scholarly works and essay collections with all contributions being original publications. The committee will consider nominations from the following fields of study within Chicanx and Latinx Studies: Anthropology, History, Religion, Interdisciplinary Studies, Literary Analysis, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology. Original works in Spanish are acceptable. Submissions not eligible include: reprints, updated editions, and translations.
The Américo Paredes Book Award will be presented to the winning author during the Center for Mexican American Studies’ Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Lecture Series. The award is accompanied by a $500 prize. The winning author will be invited to participate in the lecture series and receive the award from South Texas College. Due to recent events, the format for this event has yet to be determined.
Procedure for NominationsAward Committee welcomes self-nominations and places no restrictions on the number of nominations individual presses would like to submit. Please mail one copy of the book to each of the four Award Committee members at the addresses below before or by the nomination deadline of March 1, 2021.
