Book Review of Esperanza Rising

Esperanza Rising is one of the best books I have ever read. My favorite part is when Abuelita comes to California because it is interesting to find the missing puzzle piece to the ending. When Esperanza’s mother gets Valley fever, Esperanza needs Abuelita to comfort and help her, but Esperanza gets frustrated. Miguel, who used to be Esperanza’s servant, does a grand act of kindness to get Abuelita out of Mexico. Esperanza insults Miguel saying he would always be just a servant, and the author tricks you into thinking Miguel is mad at her. When Miguel comes back with Abuelita, it gives you a mix of emotions. You are surprised because it’s what you least expect, you have tears of happiness because Abuelita is finally in California, and maybe you’re mad at Esperanza for calling Miguel a servant. I especially like how the author leaves you wanting to read more about Abuelita coming. A good author like Pam Muñoz Ryan makes the reader wait and builds suspense. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. This wonderful book is also available in the Spanish.
